Corporate Messaging
Below is an example of my work on, “A message from George,” a weekly executive message designed to increase executive awareness, support key business initiatives, and foster connection between the site president and his workforce. It reached an audience of more than 75,000 executive, salaried, and hourly employees referred to as “Cast Members.” It is intentionally written outside of AP Style to portray a conversational feel.
In this particular message from Dec. 21, 2018, George supports the release of Mary Poppins Returns by connecting a theme from the film to the skills of his Cast Members and the holiday season.
A message from George: Thank you for remembering

To the joy of millions of supercalifragilisticexpialidocious fans around the world, Mary Poppins Returns was released in theaters this week. It is a marvelous picture, already nominated for better than a dozen major awards, and one line in it stood out for me in particular. It’s delivered by the balloon lady (Angela Lansberry), who says gently, “You’ve forgotten what it’s like to be a child.”
I remember this line because it is an observation that I have never, ever made to a single member of our Cast here at Walt Disney World. At this wonderful time of the year, when we all contemplate the things that make us happiest, this fact is, certainly, very high on my list.
I hear stories daily that reinforce our Cast’s ability to empathize with younger Guests.
I think of Cinderella who, on learning that a small Guest was frightened at the prospect of loud noises, offered to watch the fireworks with her and cover the little one’s ears with white-gloved hands anytime things threatened to get noisy. I think of an entire legion of Storm Troopers who granted a special wish by inviting what just might be the world’s smallest Darth Vader to join and lead them. I think of all the Cast Members who frequently go the extra mile to reunite a lost plush or doll with its despondent owner. I think of entertainers who regularly employ their considerable talents to make a very young Guest the star of the show.
Many times, we’ve created worlds of wonder for Guests who loved Disney first as children and never lost that joy. Every day, our Cast helps arrange picture-perfect marriage proposals, makes certain that family reunion photos are practically perfect in every single way, and—in general—takes the time to listen and produce the moment that will bring a smile to a Guest’s face.
We often forget how extraordinary that is, simply because we are in the company of Cast Members and Imagineers to whom that manner of thinking—the ability to remember a child-like sense of wonder—comes as naturally as breathing. Yet, it is rare, wonderful, and marvelous, and it is the quality that makes us so dear to the hearts of millions.
This is a special and joyous season, and I do not want it to pass without thanking you for being that rare, wonderful, and marvelous sort of person.
On behalf of all our leaders here at Walt Disney World, I wish you peace and happiness throughout the holidays. May this season of joy help you to remember anew what it’s like to be a child, and may that memory, in turn, help you to … keep making magic.
